Alpine Fire – Nine gay men over 2000 meters

We are nine guys, all exactly 20 years old, from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Italy, Slovenia, France, Sweden, and the Czech Republic – the official “U21 European Development Team”. Once every November, we meet for four days in an old German Alpine Club (DAV) hut at 2150 meters in the Stubai Alps. No cell phone reception, no coach, just us and the slopes.
During the day: Gate training at -14°C, video analysis, strength training, physiotherapy. In the evenings, we cook together, sit in a circle on furs in front of the open fireplace, drink tea, and talk about cornering radii, pressure transfer, and equipment testing. We sleep in a large dormitory-style room with mattresses under the roof, nine beds side by side, because the cabin would otherwise be too small.
The first tingle
On the second evening, it snows so heavily that we have to return to the cabin earlier than planned. We take off our wet racing suits in the vestibule and hang them dripping wet on the clotheslines. Underneath, we're all wearing only tight-fitting thermal underwear – black, skin-tight, everything visible. The heater is running at full blast; it quickly reaches 28 degrees Celsius inside.
Someone says: "A rule is a rule – naked in the living room after 10 pm, otherwise you'll sweat like crazy at night."
That was just a joke from last year, but this time nobody's laughing. One after the other, they undress. Nine naked, toned 20-year-olds suddenly stand in the firelight. The air smells of wood, sweat, and a hint of testosterone.
We sit in a circle, legs crossed, trying to play it cool. But you can see everything: who's already getting hard, who's half-erect, who's trying to hide it with a beer glass. Matteo from Italy has that perfect V-shape that glistens in the firelight. Lukas from Norway has an ass like marble from all the squatting. I notice my gaze lingering more and more often.
It grows quieter. Only the crackling in the fireplace. At some point, someone "accidentally" lays their leg over someone else's. No one moves.
