Christmas just for guys – A cozy evening in a cabin with a tree, roast meat and friends

It's December 24th, and it's snowing softly outside. There are four of us: Chris (26), Ben (29), Alex (33), and me (31) – all good friends since university. We've arranged to meet at Alex's parents' old mountain cabin to finally celebrate a proper Christmas together, just the guys.
The tree is enormous, almost three meters tall, freshly cut. We decorate it together: fairy lights, glass baubles, straw stars, all in red, gold, and white. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" plays softly in the background, and the air smells of cinnamon, pine, and the roast goose that Alex has been preparing all day. Later, we have red cabbage and dumplings, followed by homemade gingerbread and loads of presents under the tree—small, fun, but also really thoughtful things. We laugh a lot, toast with children's punch and later mulled wine, sit together on the big sofa in front of the fireplace, and simply enjoy this rare peace and closeness. A perfect, warm Christmas evening among friends.
The lights on the tree are reflected in the windows, the fire crackles. Eventually, we put on comfortable hoodies and sweatpants because it's so cozy and warm. Chris is wearing extra-tight, gray sweatpants—you can clearly see how fit he's become in the last few months. Ben is wearing only a white tank top, his upper arms and shoulders glistening in the firelight.
As we unwrap presents, we scoot closer and closer, legs touching, a friendly pat on the thigh here and there, a hand lingering a moment longer than necessary. Alex pours the third mulled wine, cheeks flushed, voices softer and hoarser. We make silly jokes about how we've all been single for ages and this year at least we'll "have each other under the mistletoe." Everyone laughs, but the glances linger a little longer than usual.
