Every summer, we – me (Austin), Leon, Matteo, Finn, and Jayden – go on holiday to the beach together. During the day, we chill by the pool, in the evenings we go out for dinner, and at night, when the beach is almost empty, we play beach volleyball for hours under floodlights. The air is warm, the sea is crashing, and we laugh ourselves silly whenever someone flies into the net or lands in the sand. After the game, we quickly shower at the hotel, have a beer on the balcony, and fall into bed exhausted. It's pure freedom: five best friends forgetting the stress of everyday life together.
There's something magical about the nights on the beach. The floodlights bathe everything in golden light, the boys run barefoot and shirtless across the sand, their bodies glistening slightly with sweat. Leon has those broad shoulders, Matteo that defined six-pack, Finn those long legs, and Jayden always that cheeky grin. When we hug or give each other high fives during the game, I feel that little tingle every time—nothing intense, but you can tell we're all young, fit, and somehow...energized. After the game, we often stand together in the hotel showers for a while, talking about all sorts of things, and the atmosphere is just relaxed, warm, and familiar. You can feel the closeness without anyone saying a word about it.
After beach volleyball, we're always totally fired up – sweat, adrenaline, the salt on our skin. Once we get back to the hotel, we usually disappear straight under the big rain shower in the bathroom. Leon's the first one under it, the water running over his muscular chest, Matteo joins him laughing, then the rest of us. Eventually, the fooling around stops and it gets quieter. We wash the sand out of each other's hair, hands glide over shoulders, backs, stomachs… no one says "stop." The glances linger, the touches last longer. In the room afterward, we often lie on the beds in just our boxer shorts, talking quietly, and sometimes a hand just slides naturally down another's thigh. Nothing "big" happens, but the air crackles with tension, and we all know there's more than just friendship there.
